Sulfates and Shampoos

Many websites have been speaking out about the sulfates and other harsh chemicals in beauty products. Web MD recently published an article by Sonya Collins – How Often Do You Really Need to Shampoo?

Collins quoted several hair stylists and Dr. Heather Woolery-Lloyd, director of ethnic skin care at the University of Miami. All discourage frequent washing of hair. They also recommend using sulfate free shampoos that clean gently with fewer bubbles.

“Shampoo’s bubbles, which people often associate with cleanness, are actually created by the harshest ingredients, sulfates, and are not even necessary for cleansing the scalp. Experts say these foaming agents, which dehydrate the hair, are only in cleansing products because consumers expect bubbles. “That’s what we’ve gotten used to because we see the commercials with big white foam,” Mirmirani, MD says” [dermatologist and specialist in hair research].Nourishing Shampoo and Herbal Shampoo made by Essential Joy Natural Products are sulfate free.
