 Detox

Detox diets are popular for losing weight.  You may have read, ‘Eliminate harmful toxins and reset your body with this detox cleanse.’

Did you know that God designed our bodies to naturally detox? When we eat healthy foods, are physically active and drink sufficient water, our body naturally eliminates toxins.

This is how our body detoxes itself, naturally through the organs.*

  • The skin – toxins are eliminated through the pores by way of oil and sweat.

o   Tip – Exercise helps us to sweat.

  • The lymphatic system – contains a fluid that travels through the body. This fluid wages war on substances that can be damaging and provides immunity to disease.

o   Tip – Exercising, taking a hot/cold shower and massage help the lymphatic system to function at its’ best.

  • The liver and kidneys. The liver filters the blood and breaks down toxins which are eliminated through the bowel. The kidneys filter toxins out through the urine.

o   Tip – Avoid toxins such as alcohol and tobacco, high-fat foods, artificial colors and flavors. This will make the work of the liver and kidneys easier.

  • The digestive system works best to remove toxins through the fiber that we eat. “When the fiber, which is indigestible, reaches the large colon, it absorbs waste and toxic matters. It forms a bowel, and is passed in a bowel movement.”

o   Tip – “Fruits, nuts, grains and vegetables and plenty of water really keep this system working well, and they contain ‘antioxidants.’

o   “Some foods, such as garlic and turmeric also have amazing anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiseptic and antibiotic properties. Ginger is anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, and pro-immune.

o   “Cruciferous foods such as broccoli, cabbage, collards, brussel sprouts, and other greens, also do an amazing job of detoxification as they are metabolized.”
